Achillea millefolium ‘Summer Pastels’ is a resilient hardy perennial, thriving on light sandy soils and coping well with coastal conditions. Its inspiring mix of pastel shades creates a wonderful tapestry of summer colour, and makes a lovely, informal cut flower. The aromatic foliage and wide, flat flower heads of ‘Summer Pastels’ are perfect for prairie planting schemes and cottage gardens, pairing well with swaying grasses. Tough and reliable, yarrow is also well-loved by pollinating insects. Height and spread: 60cm (24″).

Grow Achillea in any moist, well drained soil in full sun or semi shade. Achillea dislikes soils that sit wet over winter.

Stake the stems in late spring for support. Cut back the first flush of Achillea flowers to encourage a second flush in late summer. Thereafter, faded Achillea flower stems can be left intact until winter to add interest to autumn borders. Yarrow plants are relatively short lived perennials that will benefit from regular division every 2 or 3 years to maintain their vigour. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps in spring.
