Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Miss Saori’ is a brand new variety that is simply magnificent! Massive double white blooms are produced, with every petal featuring a delicate cerise pink margin that delicately fades from the edges to the centre of the flower. The foliage is also impressive, with tones of burgundy displayed during the cooler spring and autumn months. This 2014 Chelsea Flower Show Plant of the Year winner is one of the first of a new kind of Hydrangea that isn’t affected by soil type – all flowers will stay pink whether you plant in alkaline, neutral or acidic soils. Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Miss Saori’ is a brilliant feature plant for large patio containers and also makes a useful cut flower to enjoy indoors. Height and spread: 100cm (39″).

Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten. When growing hydrangeas, choose a sunny or semi shaded spot that is sheltered from cold winter winds. Plant in borders in rich moist, well drained soil. Add plenty of well rotted manure to improve heavy clay or light sandy soils. Alternatively plant hydrangea in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.

Feed and water container grown plants regularly. As plants increase in size they will require repotting into increasingly larger pots. In autumn, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of border grown plants. Leave faded hydrangea flower heads in place until new buds swell the following spring. These will help protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune stems in spring, removing any rubbing, damaged or diseased stems and reducing stems to maintain a permanent woody framework.
